Bathroom messes.

Good afternoon folks.
After celebrating Christmas it didn't take long to get back into making more dust and mess. This time in the bathroom.
The fun and games we had trying to move the bathtub, being cast iron it weighs rather a lot.....
However, we managed and it is now sitting in one of the bedrooms along with the basin till it came be put back in.

I don't know why I was surprised to discover that there was a gap under the window but I was. I keep forgetting that originally this and the stairs were originally a room with a fireplace.

Pretty much all the plaster has blown in here so it all needs to come down.

Luckily it comes off easily so didn't take long to shift the first lot.

It's all good fun.... though I am hoping that it won't be too much longer before we start to build back up again. The good new is that both chimneys are done so the scaffolding should come down soon.
Then all the inside work can begin in earnest which is good as the weather is definitely not conducive to working outside.

Enjoy the afternoon folks and I'll catch up later.

A bit of this and a bit of that

Hi there folks.
Thought I'd share a few bits and pieces with you today, nothing specific as there's not a lot going on at the moment.

The dining room wall has turned into an interesting one. There's a real mish mash of things going on there and after discovering that there is lime whitewash on it that is causing issues with the plaster sticking, or rather, not sticking to it we've had to take more off than originally planned....
It was entertaining seeing Susan getting stuck in.......unfortunately the video doesn't want to play (I'm sure she's tampered with it lol.
All good fun really.

Moving blocks for blocking off the doorway in the back.
Supports ready for when the new doorway gets done. I'm glad I'm not doing it as the walls are around forty centimeters thick!
And lastly, the "arty" shot of the wall......
Hope you all have a lovely afternoon, I'll be back later with more.
Until then, take care.

A tale of two Christmas's

Good morning folks.
Gosh, it's been a while since my last post hasn't it? Things have been a little bit here there and everywhere recently but I am now able to sit and take a deep catch up breath......

Things at Allerton house are ticking over slowly at the moment. As I write this the chimneys are finally almost complete after the frosts caused a few delays and redo moments.

Of course, there are two sides to everything. Much as we can't wait to move we have a life to pack up and sort out down south. So for the last six weeks I have been here, de-cluttering, sorting out the little niggles here ready for selling....
It's been surprisingly difficult emotionally to prepare to sell as this home is where we brought up our beautiful daughters and made many happy memories. Still the pull of our new life beckons us and the pull is strong.

We did manage to have two Christmas celebrations though, one early one down south with the family and then a we sneaked off to spend our very first Christmas up north.......two very different experiences and both very special...First, down in Kent we went all out to create a festive home so celebrate our last Christmas here  with our daughters and their other halves.(if everything goes to plan of course!)

Then off we trundled to Allerton House..... Christmas morning saw us enjoying breakfast in the building site , complete with festive greenery foraged from the surrounding area and decorations of course.

once the wall goes back up we'll never get this viewpoint again.

After breakfast we packed a flask of coffee and mince pies and wandered off up onto the fells

It was so lovely spending the day up there enjoying the countryside before heading back to where we were staying for a very different Christmas dinner......
A hamburger lol....

After that (and before too) we did do a bit more work but I'll save that for another time before having to head back to reality.
Here's wishing everything of the very best to you and yours this coming year
